Based on an art project
It seems unlikely, but this garden sculpture is based on a real art project from 1994. Artist Ottmar Hörl distributed no less than a thousand of these garden gnomes in blue through the German Seligenstadt, in groups or separately. Not all at once, but in randomly chosen steps and phases, these gnomes were placed in different places and totally unexpectedly in the city. The gnomes remained standing until they were taken by passers-by, which was exactly the intention of the art project. The idea was that the gnome project was already owned by the public anyway, and that it did not matter if the garden gnomes were moved. So there is more depth behind this gnome than you might think!
